The R&R Video. Just like the other one, please watch it HAHHA. Coz I think it's funny. Watching others suffer when putting fried grasshoppers into their mouths lolol. Or touch it. I enjoy. As you can see from the thumbnail above.

By the way, I forgot to mention in my last post that, I actually fell sick at around Day 7 or so. The usual flu and cough. Most of us did. I think it was still manageable but the fact that we had to bathe in cold water at NIGHT when temperatures were so low.... it was quite terrible. I decided not to shower on one of the days and wipe myself down with a change of clothes coz I think my condition would've worsened had I showered in cold water at night. I believe it must have been the extreme weather changes from afternoon to night, everyday, that caused most of us to fall ill with flu and cough. Huda even got a fever on Day 3 or 4. Woah ho.

Anyway, we were away in Laos for so long that when we returned to Singapore, we realised we missed out on a LOT of news. Andre told me yesterday that while we were away in Laos, we missed out on the top news of 2012 hahahaha. Total exaggeration but there were 3 particularly big news that we missed out on.
1) The India Gang Rape incident
2) MICHAEL PALMER AFFAIR
3) Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting incident

WE WERE TOTALLY DISCONNECTED FROM THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even our own country. Oblivious to what was happening around the globe. Quite ironic since we're comm students tahahah. And our own Singapore news/ What a shock and disappointment, Mr Palmer. The first piece of news that I was told of by my parents was the gang rape incident. Sigh, such a tragedy. I've detested rapists all my life, since I was young. Think that's why I'm sorta feminist. The rapists ought to be castrated, THEN hanged. No more dignity.

With no wifi in the village and zero internet connection, we were really living the village life. Feels awesome to get away sometimes. Really. Nothing to trouble you and allows your mind to rest.

And that was what we experienced! Shall show you our R&R adventures.

We did caving, tubing (fun!) in Vang Viang then massage and exploring of local markets in the rest of Vientiane! Pretty exciting I'd say. Oh and we saw how Laotians clubbed as well haha.

My first night in Vang Viang and I smashed the bed.
I was talking to Sianpei with both of us sitting on our own beds when I felt something collapse beneath me and I screamed! Well I guess, the bed couldn't withstand my weight HAHAHAHA. Called the receptionist and he came to dismantle the bed for me and screw it back.

He said, "Everything broke". HAHAHAH JOKE PLS!!!!!!!

This dude was a one-man show btw. Receptionist and technician. Amazing.

We had Laotian pancakes in the night. They're actually pratas in our terms actually. But they add stuff like nutella, chocolate, bananas and peanuts in them. There are other flavours as well.

How Vang Viang looks like in the day with school kids cycling to school. Pretty cute.

Oh and the place is full of angmohs.
I suspect they're there for *

AND OFF FOR CAVING & TUBING!!!

Beautiful place.
With the mountains and stream.

Quite sad tho, coz we could see that it was a village with people still living in them but is commercialised into a tourist spot. If I were them, I'd think tourists are invading my space.

Buddha. Seen while caving.

Lunch before tubing.
INSANE amount of food.

Laos was once colonised by the French, so there influences from France. Therefore, baguettes were sold everywhere! Yummy.

Other influences include Vietnamese, Thai and Cambodian.

I don't have much pictures of caving and tubing because they're in dark areas. Tubing is really fun you gotta try it. You get onto a float and you enter a cave and you pull a string to go through the cave. Water activity, so you''ll get really wet and cold from the water. But fun!

Buddhism, the main religion in Laos.

Coke! And sprite!
Their soft drinks are in bottle form. How quaint! With the cap and all.

Photobucket
Now I'm the pimp.
Which one you want?
Makaning at a local eatery! Food was pretty good I'd say.

Photobucket
Laotian clubbing hahaha. Very different.
Went there to look-see.
Open-air concept with tables around like a Chinese wedding dinner. The Laotians dance but they only dance among themselves standing up at their own table. Only the angmohs look stupid dancing next to the stage. Still quite reserved I would say, Laotian society. But their youths and people our age do know how to dress up for an event like this. They've trannies as well btw.

Laotian music and a few English pop songs.

It was a 6 day event to the 2013 countdown starting from the 26th of Dec, sponsored by BEERLAO. Told ja. BeerLao's everywhere. Like limpeh.

Off to the Singapore Embassy the next day!
Atheena looks as if she has long hair coz of Amos behind.

The place was swanky and definitely Singapore architecture, this one.
Oh and there he is! Mr. Tony Tan and wife.

The ambassador to Laos just spoke with us briefly and told us about Laos. No one on the WeeTrip team liked him. In fact, he was disliked lol. Shan't provide details.

Eating grasshoppers!!!!! Woohoo!
Nothin scary at all. Have always wanted a taste of insects, bugs and worms. I have only eaten a few insects in my life. I really want to try maggots and earthworms pls!

Photobucket
Their papaya salad SHIOKSZ.

Photobucket
Sianz and I bought 2 of these glutinous rice thingys.
We didn't know how to open the thing up and asked for the store owners help. Peel it like a banana. Pretty nice, like any other glutinous rice, no particular taste.

Photobucket
Carrie and Emily joined us in our exploration of local markets.

I don't have much pictures in there becoz most of the time we were looking and wandering and tryna find our way back. Interesting place because it wasn't the normal touristy place. They were all locals and we were the only ones on the team who decided to venture out into the local markets. The others just went off to shop at the airconditioned shopping mall. I say we're damn cool alright.

NIGHT MARKET!!!!!

Ok food... and awesome clothes shopping.

I bought 2 sleeveless tops, a Laotian skirt AND AN AWESOME LOOKING PAIR OF ALADDIN PANTS!!!!! Woooohooo!!!!!! Will show you later. It was pretty awesome shopping, and of coz we felt like we should've bought more afterthat. But, I think I spent ok. It was one longggg stretch of stalls and a U-TURN. So you can walk until you pengz. But shiokkk. I could find better stuff that I liked in Chiangmai, Thailand the last time. But this was ok, good enough for me already! : )

Even later into the night, it was ADVENTURE TIME with Sianzzzz. Coz it was our last night, and we really wanted to make good use of our time left in Laos.

PHO!!!! Shiok boh?

We scared Carrie, Amos and Eugene coz we ran off suddenly into the streets to find some sort of adventure on our own. We were hungry and ended up at this shop. SOMEHOW they managed to find us, and joined us heh heh.

The next morning, the day we were to fly~~

We were allowed to wake up later at 12, but Sianz and I decided to wake up early at 8am and explore EVEN MORE of Vientiane, Laos! Foodie adventure! To taste all of Laos' local delights~~

Photobucket

THIS WAS THE PANTS I WAS TALKING ABOUT. Ain't I rockin it?!?! Hahahha. All the girls who bought the pants wore it that day. And I was out exploring the streets of Vientiane with it! Whoop whoop.

First stop, PAD THAIIII

Pretty awesome. Tastes a bit like char kway tiao + hokkien mee mixed together haha with lime. The stall owner recommended it to us so she prolly was good at cooking it. I always thought pad thai was thai cuisine. Isn't it?

Photobucket
A pretty shop specialising in wool and they have very pretty stuff. A tad too ex tho. Like normal prices in Singapore.

Photobucket
A wrap similar to hak-kao dim sum, but with vegetable and rice fillings in it. I like it.

Just exploring the streets and taking picture with a car like it's mine.

Had unripe mangoes and fruits here.
I get the feeling that they don't see much tourists at that area.

Introducing Ms. Sianz, my adventure buddy and good friend. Thank god for OCIP trip or else we wouldn't have become better friends,

A quaint bookstore we walked into.
Surprisingly, Laos has quite a number of second hand book book stores. A lot of book worms in the team were delighted and pleasantly surprised and eventually bought a number of books! I almost wanted to buy one in this book store for my dad coz it was about the American War in Laos, but ran out of cash and didn't want to borrow! So, I let it be. Dad told me I should have. -.-

After this stall, we made a U-turn and traced our foot steps back to the Guesthouse.

Last foodie stop,

Looks like pork, but it's DUCK!!! Duck rice!
SUPER YUMMY!!!!! I love it.

Or so we understood. Could've been pork for all we know hahaha. But it tasted much tender? So it's duck I suppose. Ah well.

Photobucket
Last shot before I left the place. It was damnnnn crowded. Bet we went to a popular local food hangout! How awesome!?

Last group shot in Dragon Lodge Guesthouse.
22-strong member team. Why does it look smaller than 22? But yes it's 22. And the guy in yellow is obviously not one of us. He was our guide. Made sure us Singaporeans were safe and sound in Vientiane and Vang Viang.

Oh I must tell you one funny incident we had while on our way to Vientiane. Pinli and Atheena had to go so bad, that we had to stop the bus halfway at some ulu place and they peed behind trees. Sophial, Carrie and I went down to do it with them coz omg, WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!! Best part was... the bus stopped at a toilet 10 mins later for all of us on the bus to pee. So if the 5 of us had held our pee longer, it'd have been properly done in a civilised manner hahahaha ahh well. But really, what an experience.

Off to Vientiane airport, leaving for Singapore!

LAO AIRLINES and back to Singapore!!!

This trip felt like ages ago, although it's only been a week. What a dream, Laos. I had a great time there. I'm finally done updating on my Laos OCIP trip and I want to update you guys on something else as well. Spoke to 2 friends about it already. Am vexed but yes, it concerns OCIP.

And I guess it's time to move on with life already. Other things have occurred in my life that need mentioning here haha.

Laos, you were really a dream. And I felt like the happiest, most lucky girl in the world, during my 2-week stay there. It's so hard to say that you are happy coz what IS happiness?

Well, it was there when I felt, truly happy.
