1) Richard Giam

Hello, there.

Current Position:
Head, Annual and Premium Giving, Development Office, NTU

Certifications
·     Master of Mass Communication, Nanyang Technological University (Class of 2010)
·     Bachelor of Communication Studies (Hons), Nanyang Technological University (Class of 2000)
·     Certified Master Practitioner of Business NLP
·     Certified NLP Practitioner
·     Master Enneagram Coach and Administrator
·     Master Executive NLP Coach
·     Advanced NLP Certificate in Emotional Intelligence

That's some pretty good track record over there. I'm not gonna copy and paste one whole chunk of things he said about himself, but basically he is someone who is very much of high status. There are a number of things that he has done that makes him extremely competent, such as being awarded a Pearson Education Gold Medal as the top Master of Mass Communication student. He is now heading a team of five fundraising campaign managers and overseeing all annual and premium giving programmes within NTU.

Sounds chim, but simply put, a Mass Communications student can also earn big bucks. There are a number of things that people told me about "why I shouldn't be a comms student" before I entered WKWSCI myself. And one of them is the fact that I won't be able to earn a lot.

But just looking at this man himself, Mr Richard Giam, I think the myth has been busted. You can definitely make it and carve a really successful career for yourself! But of coz, after hard work and determination, as everything else in LIFE.

Moving on...

CELEBRITIES

2) Ng Hui

I remember seeing her onscreen for the first time as 'Apple' in Living with Lydia haha. I like her coz she has such a cheerful disposition?! Happy all the time on tv. Glad knowing she was from WKW.

JOANNE PEH!!!! With angmoh boypren.

No one can ever not mention Joanne Peh man. Haha.
So yeah, if you're a fan of them both, maybe you could consider following in their footsteps... leading you to eternal fame hahaah.

Not only that, amidst the current student body of WKWSCI, there are a number of "stars" as well. Child stars. Now they've grown up of coz and are about the same age as me. You know "Robbie and the Book of Tales" which used to be running on Kids Central? Yeah the actor has grown up already of course and is now studying in wkw.

And finally,

The REAL people out there who are doing what journalists do best.

3) Samuel He

"Samuel He started his career as a photojournalist with The Straits Times in Singapore.

There, he produced photographs and in-depth feature stories that garnered international awards like a Society of Publishers in Asia (Hong Kong) first prize for feature photography and a Society of News Design(USA) merit award.

Through the Lens, a multimedia site which he helped start and produced content for won a Gold Award for Best in Online Media - Newspaper Website, at the IFRA Asian Digital Media Awards in 2011.

In 2012, he left the newsroom to start WEAVE, a commercial and editorial photography outfit. His current list of clients include SingTel, Nielsen and The New Yorker."

Here are some of the great photos he's taken,

Street Portraits produced in Bhutan. Samuel was there as part of WKWSCI's Go-Far team to the Himalayan kingdom, assisting faculty members Cherian George and Tay Kay Chin in supervising the students' work.

I really like the Bhutan photos that my school has produced. I didn't mention about "Go-Far" in my other post but yes, that is another travel opportunity. As a journalist, I think you'd want to be placed in a situation where you are made to report news in places out of your comfort zone. Challenging, but rewarding. Last year was Bhutan. If I'm not wrong, this year's will be Japan. To report on the devastating earthquake that happened almost 2 years ago.

A team of students from my school went to North Korea as well some time ago. Pretty cool eh? Don't know what programme or project was it for but, yeah this will be one of the things you get to do as a journalist here in WKWSCI.

There you go. Oh, and one more person I forgot to mention.

And that's me.

4) Tan Si Hui
One day she'll be an alumni and because of her, everyone wants to go to WKWSCI. I can't explain this inexplicable feeling but it's this pull that she has? This magnetic pull to draw people? Yeah. She's pretty amazing.

Hahahahaha. That was retarded but yes, one day I myself will be an alumni, and I hope I'll be a somebody some day. And people know my name and go, "Hey! Aren't you the one from Wee Kim Wee?"

And I'd proudly say yes! I was. Do come over, it's the most amazing school ever.

I honestly feel that, throughout my life, this has been the best and only school life that has presented me with an ARRAY of opportunities that I'd never thought I'd ever get to experience. Firstly, as an Orientation Group Leader for one of the camps. Then, the opportunity to go overseas on exchange for 6 months. Something I've always dreamt of doing and am really living the life right now in New Zealand. And thirdly, I was given the chance to go for OCIP, a voluntary programme to help people in less developed countries last year and am now on my way to lead a group to Laos come December 2013.

It has been an amazing life journey so far, and I honestly feel that if I were in another school, I wouldn't have been presented this much opportunities. Because of that, I was extremely willing to write all these blog posts for you guys.

Go for the Open House to learn more if you know you're interested and know that this will be the place where you can see your life spelt out.

Otherwise, you can be like me. Just apply for WKWSCI without knowing much of anything hahaha. Ignorant but hey, I just KNEW that WKW was the place for me. And lucky for me, I was right.

But of course, don't be like me and my lazy ass. Go find out what's in-store for you over at the Open House. Get yourself informed and prepared!

SO here are the details. This will be my final blog post for the Open House coz tomorrow's the event already. GO FOR IT.
