Hello, and I am here to kick off and shamelessly promote my school's Open House that will be happening this Saturday on the 9th of March 2013 at NTU.

It's kinda strange to be blogging about coz I'm overseas now but HANYWAY!

I'll be blogging a series of posts over the next few days leading up to the 9th of March so do look out for them, especially if you're interested on studying at Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI)!

I have been given a list of topics to touch on and some general information of my school.

I will include any honest feedback and opinion from my perspective if need be so that it's not all sunshine and roses hahaha. But mostly it WILL be sunshine and roses AND rainbows as well coz I do love my school. I am a Year 2 student now so yeah, approx. 1 and a half years in the school so I have a fair bit of experience. Am on exchange now in New Zealand!

I don't understand why they're having an Open House in the middle of no-when since people are having school. AH WELL, HERE GOES!

So, first things first are the basics. Who the * is Wee Kim Wee? And why was my school named after him?

First of all, if you're Singaporean and you don't know who Wee Kim Wee is, then SHAME ON YOU! May PAP bless your soul. Hahahaha. But seriously.

This man here was the 4th President of our nation in the years 1985-1993.
Before that he was the High Commissioner to Malaysia and Ambassador to Japan and South Korea.

Well, if you already knew all that, then good for you.

But there's something that not many know of and that is his journalistic background.

And I guess that would answer the question of why my school was named after him. He was a journalist!

Before calling the shots as President of The Republic of Singapore, he was calling the shots as Chairman of The Singapore Broadcasting Corporation. Everyone started small and for him, it all began when he worked in The Straits Times as a clerk. He started to cover news such as the "Konfrontasi" in Indonesia and some saw him as a "bridge between 2 countries" of Singapore and Indonesia. Not only that, he even covered the civil war in the Belgian Congo (now Zaire).

This man was something.

So hey, why not name one of Asia's leading Communications school after one of Singapore's best journalists of his time?

In WKWSCI, we have a school cheer that goes like this,

Who are who are who are We?
We are we are Wee Kim Wee!
Who are who are who are We?
We are we are Wee Kim Wee!

Who are we?
WEE KIM WEE!
Who are we?!
WEE KIM WEE

WHEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No kidding, that's our school cheer.
When I first had to shout the cheer, I was like, hell no, I ain't Wee Kim Wee. I ain't gonna shout his name and wake him up from the dead yaw. Haha.
But I have grown accustom to the cheer and it is definitely one to REMEMBER coz it's so easy. And yes, we are Wee Kim Wee. That's what we call ourselves.

SO that's Wee Kim Wee for you guys.

Shall be talking about the concentrations that my school has to offer in my next post, as well as overseas opportunities in the subsequent post so stay tunedddd.
